About volunteering in ISG

What have the past few weeks been like for our volunteer, Mateusz Przybycin?

Mateusz is a sports enthusiast who has always dreamed of working in the sports industry. For him, sports embody extraordinary emotions, human stories, and experiences—a passion that has endured since childhood.

On a daily basis, Mateusz studies management at the University of Warsaw. Why this particular field? Because it’s a natural next step—working with people is an integral part of the sports world. Additionally, he is actively involved in the Sports Law Scientific Association “Ius et Sport” at the University of Warsaw, where his dedication has earned him the position of board president this year.

Sports-oriented scientific associations provide an excellent springboard for young people to enter the sports industry. These groups offer opportunities to meet industry professionals, participate in exciting conferences and events, and work on initial projects, gaining experience and skills that will pay off in the future.

Volunteering is an excellent way to acquire knowledge and experience while networking with people in the field volunteers aim to develop in. Becoming a volunteer is thus a natural step. In addition to collaborating with ISG, Mateusz also participates in a volunteer program organized by PZPN. As a volunteer, he has the opportunity to gain an insider’s view of the organization, help coordinate events, attend fascinating conferences, and even embark on international trips.

The end of the year traditionally comes with many exciting events, congresses, and conferences in the sports industry. As a volunteer, I had the pleasure of representing the Institute at several of these events. Here’s a brief summary of the past few weeks in my role as an ISG volunteer.

Sport Biznes Polska Congress

November kicked off with the Sport Biznes Polska Congress, undoubtedly the largest event I’ve attended so far. Engaging panels—including one featuring another ISG member, Paweł Zembura P.h.D. — and many meaningful conversations made this evening truly unforgettable.

UMCS Sports Law Scientific Association Conference

That same week, I attended the UMCS Sports Law Scientific Association’s conference titled “Proposed Changes to the Sports Act”. The Institute sponsored the event, and I had the honor of representing it on-site. I’m delighted to see that the community of sports law scientific associations around ISG continues to grow with the addition of new groups.

ESG Innovators Forum 2024

In mid-November, I joined Piotr Popławski at the ESG Innovators Forum 2024. The topic of CSR/ESG has been my discovery of the year. I’m thrilled to see it being discussed increasingly often, even in the context of the sports industry. However, I regret that ESG discussions tend to focus primarily on environmental issues, while topics related to social responsibility and good governance are somewhat overlooked, despite being equally important in my opinion.

MoneyBall III – Innovations in Sports and Business

On November 20, I embarked on my first (but certainly not last) trip outside Warsaw. Together with Rafał Kaszubski and Mateusz Boczyło, I represented ISG at the MoneyBall III Conference in Łódź.

Organized by Widzew Łódź, a clear leader in social responsibility in our Ekstraklasa, as highlighted in our latest report, this event stood out for its agenda, which allocated significant time for networking. This innovative format, in my opinion, worked exceptionally well. In addition, the event featured engaging panels and reinforced my belief that sports and business are now inseparably intertwined.

Project Meeting in Paris

November concluded with one of the greatest adventures of my life. Thanks to ISG’s international collaboration, I had the opportunity to fly to Paris and participate in a project meeting for Work, Move & Perform. Traveling solo was a major lesson in independence and an opportunity to practice speaking English. Despite initial concerns, I had a fantastic time, learned about an intriguing program, and gained firsthand insight into how project meetings, a vital part of ISG’s activities, are conducted.

Summary

It’s been an intense but rewarding month. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given and believe these valuable experiences will yield benefits in the future!
