Sport Transparency Index – A New Era of Transparency in European Sport

Launch of the Sport Transparency Index

On 18 June 2025, the launch event for the Sport Transparency Index will take place in Brussels. STI is the first tool in Europe designed to assess the transparency of sport organisations. This marks a milestone for the entire sports community and all stakeholders committed to strengthening good governance, accountability, and integrity in sport. 

We are proud to announce that the Institute for Sport Governance is an official partner in the international Sport Transparency Index project. The project aims to support actions that reinforce integrity at the most fundamental level of the sports system – from local clubs to international institutions.

Our goal is to protect sport as a public good from increasing threats such as lack of transparency, conflicts of interest, and misconduct, while promoting a culture of responsibility. 

Setting New Standards for European Sport 

In an era of rapid transformation, growing social expectations, and the urgent need to rebuild trust in sport institutions, transparency has become a cornerstone of governance.

That is the vision behind the Sport Transparency Index – an innovative tool developed by an international team of experts to independently and objectively assess the openness of operations across European sport organisations, including clubs, leagues, national federations, and international bodies.

Sport Integrity Forum – A Shared Space for Change 

The Index will be officially presented during the Sport Integrity Forum: Good Governance and Transparency in Sport, a conference gathering representatives from sport institutions, public authorities, academia, and civil society in Brussels. The event will be held in a hybrid format, allowing participation both in person and online.

  • Registration opens at: 9:30 AM 
  • Venue: Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Brussels School of Governance 
  • Format: Hybrid (Brussels + Zoom) 
  • Admission: Free of charge (registration required) – limited spaces available 

What Can Participants Expect? 

The event programme includes: 

  • Presentation of the Sport Transparency Index methodology and results 
  • Keynote speeches from leaders and policymakers in sport 
  • Interactive panel discussions with representatives of evaluated organisations 
  • Dedicated space for networking and dialogue on the future of sport governance in Europe 
  • Access to tools supporting transparency, governance reform, and education
