Olympic Committees Leadership Programme (OCLP)
Developing Leadership Competencies in Sports Organizations
In the dynamically evolving world of sports, the role of leaders in sports organizations is crucial for effective management and long-term development. The Olympic Committees Leadership Programme (OCLP) is an innovative initiative funded by Erasmus+, aimed at developing leadership competencies among representatives of National Sports Federations and supporting the dual career path of Olympians, helping them transition seamlessly into managerial roles in sports.
Project Objectives
OCLP focuses on three key aspects:
- Building Responsible Leadership – Developing management skills within sports organizations, particularly among officials and athletes transitioning into leadership roles.
- Promoting Dual Careers for Athletes – Supporting athletes in their transition to managerial positions in sports by leveraging their unique competencies gained during their sports careers.
- Gender Equality and Diversity – Encouraging women to take on leadership positions in sports organizations and fostering an inclusive environment for future leaders.
Programme Activities
- Research and Needs Analysis – Identifying key leadership challenges in sports.
- Workshops for Future Leaders – Held in four partner countries, covering management skills, teamwork, and decision-making.
- Mentorship Programme – Participants will work with experienced mentors from outside the sports sector to develop their leadership competencies.
- Final Event in Brussels – A summary of the programme’s outcomes and the promotion of best practices in sports management.
Project Partners
The project is implemented in collaboration with the National Olympic Committees of Poland, Greece, Croatia, and Ukraine, as well as research organizations, including the Institute for Sport Governance (ISG) and European Network for Innovation and Knowledge (EUNIK).
Why is this important?
- Strong leadership is the foundation of every sports organization – OCLP equips participants with practical management skills and effective decision-making abilities.
- Athletes as leaders – We enable former athletes to stay engaged in sports by developing their managerial competencies.
- Sustainable sports development – With good governance and organizational transparency, the entire sports sector can grow efficiently and ethically.
The OCLP programme is a step toward the future of sports – more professional, inclusive, and sustainable.
