#TeamISG at the 22nd EFDN Conference – Football Driving ESG Goals
The #TeamISG had the privilege of attending the 22nd edition of the European Football for Development Network (EFDN) conference #MoreThanFootball. This inspiring event was held at the King Power at Den Dreef Stadium in Leuven, Belgium. It brought together leaders in sports to explore how football and other disciplines can support Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives.
Football as a Catalyst for Positive Change
Key topics discussed at the conference included:
- Social Inclusion – leveraging sports for community integration,
- Mental Health Awareness – supporting youth in overcoming challenges,
- Gender Equality – promoting equal opportunities in sports,
- Sustainability – sports as a platform for environmental education.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the prestigious #MoreThanFootball Award 2024 to the “Add Mentor” project by the Bristol City Robins Foundation. This initiative exemplifies how sports can help young people tackle social and mental challenges while fostering inclusion.
Sports and Environmental Responsibility – A Call to Action
The conference underscored how sports can not only bring communities together but also inspire eco-conscious actions. Notably, Chris Boardman, Chair of Sport England and former Olympic champion, spoke during COP29 about the vital role of sports in combating climate change. He emphasized that athletes and sports organizations can motivate millions to adopt sustainable habits, creating a cumulative impact to protect our planet.
Boardman urged global sports leaders to take bold steps in climate action and use sports as a platform to educate and promote eco-friendly lifestyles.
