European Week of Sport 2025: 10 Years of #BeActive. Why this week can change Polish sport for the whole year
The European Week of Sport (EWoS) is an annual initiative of the European Commission that encourages physical activity and builds a culture of sport across Europe. The jubilee tenth edition takes place on 23–30 September 2025 and – as every year – brings together millions of people in tens of thousands of events, from PE lessons and family picnics to night-time activity marathons.
10 years of movement, motivation and community
The EWoS campaign was launched in 2015 as a response to the growing problem of physical inactivity in Europe. Since then, the idea of #BeActive has become one of the most recognizable slogans of European sports policy: an invitation to stay active not only for one week, but throughout the whole year. In 2023, EWoS events attracted over 11 million participants in more than 37,000 activities across 40 countries – a scale that proves sport truly unites Europe.
In 2025, the EWoS opening ceremony will take place on 23 September in Copenhagen (GAME Streetmekka). Year by year, EWoS increasingly emphasizes integration, equal access, and public health – priorities that perfectly correspond with our foundation’s mission.
The Polish perspective: #BeActive in practice
In Poland, EWoS means hundreds of local events organized by schools, clubs, municipalities and NGOs. In this jubilee edition, special attention is drawn to #BeActive Night in Warsaw – 27 September 2025, Hala Gier AWF. The program includes activity zones (e.g. rowing on ergometers, kickboxing, taekwondo, fencing, athletics), workshops, and family activities – all in a friendly and open format. It is a great model of how to build the habit of movement through attractive, free ways of spending time.
Why do we need EWoS? Four key reasons
- Public health and well-being
Regular exercise reduces the risk of chronic diseases, improves mental health and enhances quality of life. EWoS reminds us of this across the continent, combining education with practice – from school lessons to park workouts. - Social inclusion
Sport lowers barriers and builds community – it is inclusive towards seniors, people with disabilities, families with children, or new city residents. That is why EWoS focuses on open, accessible, and diverse events. - Local development
The Week of Sport is an opportunity for cooperation between schools, municipalities, NGOs and businesses. Well-designed events help discover local sports offers, test innovations (e.g. activity in urban spaces) and strengthen clubs. - Changing digital habits
More and more EWoS partners combine activity with responsible use of technology. For example, this year’s national partner communications promote the theme “Move More, Scroll Less” – a practical message that makes the first step easier.
Good practices that work (and are worth replicating)
- Night-time family formats (like #BeActive Night): fresh, spectacular and accessible – lowering the entry barrier for “non-sporty” people.
- Micro-challenges at school and work: 10-minute activity breaks, cycling to work, “walk & talk” meetings.
- Activity linked with social value: e.g. family runs combined with volunteering (clean-ups, charity collections), which engage participants and build a sense of agency.
- Cross-sector cooperation: when education, sport, health, and transport plan together – the results are more accessible and sustainable.
Want to join as a participant?
- Check the list of events and registration on the official #BeActive Poland website.
- Choose an activity that matches your fitness level and… come along with your family or friends.
- Build a habit: sign up for regular classes at a local club or set yourself a weekly goal of “150+ minutes of movement”.
Conclusion
The European Week of Sport is not just a short campaign but, above all, an investment in the future of a healthy and active society. Every workout, walk, or shared outdoor game is a step towards better well-being, stronger social bonds, and greater resilience of the whole community.
The jubilee tenth edition of EWoS is the perfect moment to ensure that movement becomes an inseparable part of our daily lives. Because #BeActive is not a slogan for one week – it is a lifestyle for the whole year.
That’s why we encourage you: find your activity, invite your loved ones, and join millions of Europeans who choose health, joy, and community through sport.
