Good Governance and Compliance for the Good of Sport (GGCS)

good governance in sport

Modern sport today faces challenges that go far beyond competition on the field. Increasing importance is being placed on transparency, institutional accountability, regulatory compliance, and the professional management of sports organizations. In response to these needs, the Good Governance and Compliance for the Good of Sport (GGCS) project was created.

What is the GGCS project?

GGCS is an international project implemented under the Erasmus+ Sport programme, aimed at strengthening standards of good governance, compliance, and risk management in sports organizations across Europe.

The project combines expert knowledge, practical experience, and international cooperation to support sports organizations in their day-to-day operations and development.

Why is this project important?

Sports organizations—from associations and federations to clubs and public institutions—are increasingly facing challenges related to:

  • transparency of operations,
  • managerial accountability,
  • compliance with regulations and standards,
  • effective decision-making.

The GGCS project responds to these needs by offering concrete tools and solutions that help improve management practices and enhance organizational professionalism.

What does the project include?

Workshops for sports organizations
One of the key elements of the project is a series of practical workshops addressed to representatives of sports federations and associations, leagues and clubs, as well as sports administration bodies.

The workshops focus on real challenges faced by organizations and provide tools that can be implemented in everyday work.

Proof of Concept – implementation in practice
The project goes beyond training activities. It also includes pilot actions (Proof of Concept), which allow for analyzing how organizations operate, identifying areas for improvement, and developing concrete recommendations for change.

This approach enables a transition from theory to practice and provides real support for organizational development.

International cooperation
GGCS is based on collaboration between partners from various European countries, including organizations such as the Institute for Sport Governance (Poland) and Sportlyanz (France), as well as the exchange of experience among sports organizations involved in the project.

This makes it possible to compare different management models and build shared standards at the European level.

Who is the project for?

The project is addressed to all stakeholders in sport, in particular:

  • management staff of sports federations and associations,
  • representatives of clubs and leagues,
  • individuals responsible for governance, regulation, and finance,
  • public administration bodies related to sport.

What are the benefits?

Participation in the GGCS project provides access to international knowledge and experience, as well as practical support in improving organizational management. It enables the identification of areas requiring development and contributes to strengthening transparency and professionalism.

Additionally, it offers the opportunity to join a European network focused on governance in sport.

The future of sport begins with good governance

The GGCS project demonstrates that the development of sport is not only about athletic performance, but also about the quality of management within the organizations that shape it.

By combining knowledge, practice, and international cooperation, it is possible to build a modern, responsible, and transparent sports system in Europe.
